The Ladies Man

I just find it funny how The women of Motown stayed close to Marvin, but kept their distance Because they did not want to face Anna. I just find it hard to believe that according to Mary wilson Marvin did not take any chances. Women were practically throwing themselves at him. Did Marvin explore his options?...what do u guys think. Of course the women that came along on the road had their oppurtunities, but what about the women on Motown?

I know it's been denied and there's no real evidence to point to it but I believe that Marvin and Tammi at least tried something. I know Marvin said that Tammi was too headstrong for him. Well first thing is first, how would Marvin know that if he never tried dating her? Also he had such a spiritual bond with her that when she died he was in a huge depression for nearly 2 years. You don't get from just singing love songs and touring together. There had to be MORE to it.
Anyone agree with me that they had something going on for a while? I mean, hell, Marvin would mention her all the time during his last tour and there's a recording out there where it was Tammi's birthday and Marvin asked the crowd to acknowledge it even though she's been dead for nearly 15 years!

Funny you mentioned this, because a while back I came across an interesting quote from Marvin.....
"There were Dozens of Little affairs between this singer and that producer, Show people tend to be sensualist. It's not our Fault".
with that being said I don't think Marvin was excluding himself from the statement. Marvin kept a flock of motown girls trailing behind him, some might say that It was a little school girl crush, but I think it was sometimes a little deeper than that. Marvin was irresistable and women could not let Anna stand in their way. Anna knew this was happening and also took matters into her own hands, I wouldn't say that both were innocent in their relationship, but I can say that Great songs were written because of their disloyal.
Now which Motown artists did Marvin get with is what you're thinking  ... One will never know, I do know that Marvin and Mary Wilson towards the Early 80s had a very close-knit relationship. according to Mary, Marvin would come over all the time to her house and just sit or lay around. and by knowing Mary's long desire and love for Marvin, one could suspect the obvious...then again I'm just throwing things out there, nothing is a givin fact. so don't quote me lol

I totally agree MPGFAN, some say it isn't true about Marvin and Tammi, and then you have those who believe and have evidence that something was goin on.
According to Brenda Holloway
"If I was on the road with her and Marvin would call Tammi, they would talk all kind of smoochie and everything and then she would come back happy. With Marvin it was on the downlow, totally, and you would have to be with her to really know".
And According to Martha Reeves
"It was the fear of Anna Gordy that kept those who knew from pubically discussing Marvin and Tammi's relationship".
Tammi's sister and others claims that Marvin and Tammi had a brother-sister type of relationship and nothing else.
In my own Opinion I think that Marvin had something with Tammi that tops all the women he has ever been with. If one would just look at their footage/videos together one would clearly see that there was true romantic love in the air.

I honestly believe Marvin was shy/a gentleman even if later on in his life he began to try to experiment sexually with women. But in the '60s, I honestly feel like Marvin was trying to be faithful to Anna (which didn't work considering both of them were jealous at the attention each of them got from the opposite sexes) but I think he might've fallen in love with Tammi but realized that he didn't wanna harm a close friendship.

also Mary had a long long affection for Marvin and Eddie Kendricks, so yeah I was pretty much hinting on that relationship. (after reading her last book)
with Tammi and Marvin we will never know...
also I'm at Marvin "ITS NOT OUR FAULT".

On the question on whether Marvin and Tammi had a secret relationship. In my opinion, no. And for two very good reasons: ANNA GORDY GAYE, AND DAVID RUFFIN (Ruffin was with Tammi during her and Marvin's duet period). And Anna? Well, I get the feeling that she wasn't having it. Also Marvin told David Ritz in his autobiography Divided Soul that he and Tammi were just good friends, like big brother and little sister. And, the "love" they made only happened on the studio recordings. I believe that.

Marvin & Tammi had a deep friendship. That's why Tammi's death was hard for Marvin. I always believed it was simply a close friendship that when Tammi left made it hard for Marvin to deal with his life because he may have shared deep thoughts with Tammi, thoughts he couldn't share with Anna.
