I doubt it was the natural way... pregnancies even around 1965 were starting to leave its primitive stages even then.

According to "mrscooper", Marvin and Denise weren't dating so who knows? I'm going with the turkey baster for now...

I think the saddest thing about this story is that Marvin III and Anna probably had their own demons to contend with. I wonder once Marvin III found the truth about his pregnancy, did he blame Anna for messing with his father's mind, did he blame Denise for not telling him, did he wonder what was up with Marvin and his relatives when they agreed to it (either non sexual or sexual) and how that helped to develop his damaged psyche in a way that he could never resolve these issues. It seems Denise tried to help Marvin III but felt his aunt had let Marvin III ruin their home (it allegedly turned into a drug haven according to some gossip sites). What's even more confusing is why Denise Gordy hasn't told her side of the story more (than just a simple "confirmation" in Steve Turner's and Michael Eric Dyson's books). Is she waiting for Anna to die to do it or something? That must've also really screwed with Marvin too, knowing he had been allegedly raped by his uncle and being put into a corner like "well if you want a child, you'll do it" and Marvin almost never gave it up. It said he had this fright about having sex with anyone (which led to me making an assumption that they probably didn't naturally conceive III). I don't know, it's just real bizarre to me.

The years have not been good for III. Drug addiction took its toll on his health. He looks bloated. But one thing I am proud of is he's still trying to be the carrier of his father's legacy. Here's hoping Frank Gaye will follow in his big brother's footsteps if anything should happen to III. I didn't say Nona because I'm not too sure about her atm...

It's really hilarious lol oh yeah all the bios confirmed Anna sanctioned the pregnancy lol I'm guessing if it was the baster, all parties didn't wanna talk about it because it would've been really bizarre, let's not even forget the fact that Anna was III's biological aunt. LOL that's just a little effed up man...

Please believe, if Marvin hadn't married Anna and had married some other prominent woman in Detroit, this wouldn't have happened. wink And the creepiest thing about it wasn't that Marvin did it at all, it was the fact that Denise actually said, "I'll give you your baby, aunt Anna" and that Anna allowed it because she loved Denise. Marvin must've thought "what did I get myself into?" That could explain why III lashed out at Anna and Denise at times. It kinda reminds me of Jack Nicholson's situation when he assumed his grandmother gave birth to him. By the time Jack found out who he thought was his sister was actually his mother, she was dead.

And while off topic, bring it back to Motown, Marvin and Anna weren't the only Motown-associated couple to have inter-relative pregnancies: Mary Wells had children with two brothers in the same family (Cecil and Curtis Womack). And let's not forget Randy and Jermaine Jackson having children with the same woman.

Okay serious question here. Did we ever express a thought here that The III may not even be Marvin's biological son at all? I can't remember. Was it the Gordy's all acting alone? And while we are off topic now, may I say..... Those Womacks and Jacksons have always been crazy. smiley

You know what? You may have a point. I think in one part of the book, they said that Denise had her child but didn't really say if Marvin was involved. It was only assumed. And also, I see nothing in III that has any of Marvin's features. He looks like Denise Gordy spit him out. And also, didn't Marvin often say he was sexually impotent even in those days? It seems like he didn't seal the deal. I'm beginning to think Marvin really told the truth when he said that baby was adopted by Marvin and Anna.

Now that I think about it...

Didn't Marvin tell Ritz that he didn't admit the adoption of III because he was scared that he would be ridiculed by his friends for not siring the child (with Anna, Denise or anyone)?

It seems Marvin more than made up for it with Janis because Nona and Frank look like the splitting images of him...
