Thank you SM247 and Jan for clearing that small confusion up, I admit that I was one of the fans that got a little defensive (sorry). Still so many people that I talk all seem to talk about MG's tragedies or short-comings but in the end of it all, more talk is about his accomplishments. I think we all just want miss him so...sad

On another note, I have been to one of Zeola's plays and I'm not as skilled as most of you guys when it comes to knowing ALL events and even I was sitting there going " now...was that supposed to happen?" Lol. I haven't read Zeola's book yet either, but from what I get from this forum and those who have read it, it seems like I would have to take a lot of things with a grain of salt. I also saw that MG3rd spoke out about it as well. He even told her she was a lying beast. Wow I did not know that the hate was so heavy on many sides of the family? I think that you are doing great Jan by telling the kids to steer away from such negativity, but also letting them understand it first.

^ I didn't know either. Now I see why III got so ticked off at Zeola... I understand the anger now.

A little comedy. Hilarious to me anyway...Zeola Gay Woodard actually thinks that she SANG on 'Got To Give It Up'! All you hear from her is 'Hey! Hey! mumble, mumble'.
The backgrounds were done by Marvin, his brother Frankie and me, the one time I got to sing! When you start believing your own misguided hype, you're in deep trouble. In her recent 'bio' she just straight says it, like none of us know or remember. Laughable and desperate...read the posts about Marvin's favorite foods. He was a great cook and had one favorite meal that his Mother would cook...Tell ya later. Happy Day, Forum.

Hi, guys! I've been lurking around for a few weeks--haven't had the chance to post lately mainly due to work. Now that Jan is amongst us, I do want to say that I've seen her's, as well as M3's Twitter feeds, & I've never seen so much vitriol! M3 apparently doesn't treat others the way he wants to be treated. I would NEVER call my own aunt a "lying beast", even if she said things that weren't true about my dad! M3 is being very disrespectful, & I hope he gets hit by the karma bus for his attitude! Also, it's very obvious that Zeola didn't sing on "Got To Give It Up"--all she did was scream, yowl, & howl incoherently! Oh, & if you see this Jan, I want to say you did an AWESOME job on the backup vocals! Your contralto range is very sweet! And on the matter of Zeola's book and plays--There were some things in them that I agree with, some I didn't agree, and the rest left a big question mark over my head! My mother & I went to see "My Brother Marvin", & it was the best night of my life!

Well drugs can cloud someone's mind. She must've been more heavy on cocaine use than Marvin if she thought she "sang" on it.

(continued) I will always treasure the "My Brother Marvin" T-shirt I got as a souvenir (I wear it for special occasions), & the pictures I took with Tony Grant, Keith Washington, & "Michael"--the actor who played David Ruffin. There were truly some hilarious moments in the play, for instance, unlike most people, I laughed until I cried when David taunted Marvin over Tammi. I'm sorry, but David Ruffin was not a cute, cuddly teddy bear! He really did have an egotistical, bullying attitude, particularly towards ladies, back then, & Zeola got that correct! Why do you think he got fired from the Tempts? Also, didn't it occur to you guys that Marvin may have told Zeola all about his Motown adventures, particularly about the affair with David & Tammi? I agree that some things should be taken with a grain of salt, but we should also consider that Marvin & Zeola were close, like any brother and sister, and its quite possible that he may have related some items, particularly the disturbing ones

(continued)...that puzzle us, to her during family conversations. We should know that not every book, play, movie, etc. about a famous person is not going to be historically accurate, & in most cases, accuracy is not the main idea behind those works--like "Lady Sings The Blues"! Again, I really loved the play, & if it's true that Zeola is working on a sequel, my mom & I will absoutely be there, M3 and his calls to boycott be damned!

That depends on what that closeness was all about... where was she when Marvin was dying (prior to the argument that resulted in what occurred that fatal day in April 1984) in front of her? I know, you can never know when death is coming since it happened suddenly but still a close sibling would help that person even if it ends up in physical confrontation.

Plus I don't doubt Ruffin was an ignoramus at times but he was hiding a lot of insecurities that weren't managed right. Kids who are physically abused tend to have effed up attitudes at times. We know how it was with Marvin.

That don't mean that there's a recollection of David and Marvin ever squabbling over Tammi. It was possibly used for dramatization purposes.

Let me just say this regarding vitriolic comments by me or MG3. Its been nearly 30 years since Marvin left us all. Zeola's book is FULL of comments and attacks that often overshadow Marvin's music. If you think that this is 'new' information found in Mother Gay's 'memoirs' I feel for you. If they existed they would have been used or exploited years ago. I as well as Marvin have every right to express ourselves regarding Zeola, her 'play', her 'book', her 'sequel', her not-so-loving behavior that took place long before Marvin died and anything else that is put out there for the people who were nowhere around at the time if ever. It is fine for you to share your joy at seeing this 'piece' with your family. Thrilled that you got unlicensed tee-shirts and ecstatic that you are so impressed with the overload of negativity that has been generated since 2006-7 and before. Do you ever think that Marvin has children and grandchildren that could hear or see this stuff? Do you think it makes them happy? Walk a mile in any of our shoes and you might see things differently. Maybe. You write as if you know it all, BOTH SIDES. Well, you don't but you will if you have an ounce of compassion and fairness in your heart. You have no idea, Madame A.
Sad, sad, sad. I don't believe that you read that 'book'.

As Timmy asks, where was she when Marvin was in need? She claims to have been around 24/7. How can this be? Would she have kept the vultures away for his sake since her love runs 'so deep'? To be blunt, you don't know what you are talking about and you are embarrassing. You've been watching, reading and waiting...for what? You should just profess your undying allegiance and be done with it. Your antagonistic tone is simply rude. Get off your high horse and acknowledge that you don't, can't and never will know the inner workings of Marvin's family. Zeola claims that she wrote her book, (for the third or fourth time) hoping to bring the family back together. Marvin had his own family unit. Marvin III, Nona, and Frankie. As I have said and will say again, he loves them more than he ever loved her. They are HIS CHILDREN. They come first. Not in her mind. They are incidental.
You go to 'the play' and enjoy yourself. You are a piece of work, whoever you are. God bless. If me being amongst everyone here is a problem, so be it. Spit your venom. Its all the same to me. I have dealt with much worse. Small potatoes.
