Now before you jump me, don't get me wrong, I know in legal papers, he is Marvin's son (based on the adoption by he and Anna, who we now know isn't his biological mother) and we've discussed his birth in a thread dedicated to him but I was discussing the matter of how Marvin III came along on Anna's RIP thread at prince.org (A site I kinda detest but still post every now and then) and some people were buying into the Steve Turner/Michael Dyson garbage.

These two pics make me question those books' validity:

First pic was taken around 2000 or 2001, second was around 2006 or 2007.

I know sometimes a kid's looks don't always prove you didn't father the child but, paraphrasing the famous words of Maury Povich, "I don't think you're the father, Marvin." cry smiley

No seriously, I'm beginning to figure it out. In the mid 1960s, Berry Gordy was becoming famous in the U.S. and already something of a music legend in Detroit. So with fame comes exposure into the Gordy family. Berry wanted to keep it tight lipped. He didn't wanna reveal no secrets or even the realities of life as it related to the Gordys. That's why many waited until the late 1980s to finally talk mess about him (it started with Marvin's book).

One of the most infamous stories was the 1965 pregnancy of Denise Gordy. Now in the books of Steve Turner (Trouble Man) and Michael Eric Dyson (Mercy Mercy Me), they often mentioned that while Denise was the mother, they concluded (without further evidence but just "gossip") without prejudice that MG Jr. was the biological daddy but for one, I don't think we can cut Marvin as the Curtis Womack/Cecil Womack/Jermaine Jackson/Randy Jackson of his time.

Here's my theory: I think Denise got involved with some teenage boy at school and got pregnant. Berry Gordy didn't want this on his conscience and got his family (including Marvin) in to "do something about this". At the time, Berry was aware of Anna's struggles to have a child with Marvin and seeing as Denise was pregnant (and not the other Gordy women), it was decided by George Gordy (Denise's father) that Marvin and Anna adopt the baby (which turned out to be a boy) and Denise become a surrogate to them. Denise agreed and the baby was born five days after her 16th birthday.

You couldn't have an impregnated teenage mother story ruin your rep and have gossip columns reporting it but I think the Gordy family inadvertently produced a red herring because by Marvin and Anna agreeing to raise this boy, they opened up a Pandora's box that unfortunately put both the Gordy family and Marvin Gaye into a real-life Twilight Zone episode where you can easily accuse a 27-year-old man to sleep with his 16-year-old niece-in-law and have a baby only for your 44-year-old wife to raise the baby as her own. Sounds too crazy to be real and I know Marvin lived a crazy life but still it just puts more doubt that Marvin was the real father.

And for better explanation, how come Nona Gaye and Frankie Gaye (especially) look more like Marvin than they did their multi-racial mother? Marvin's genes were just too strong.

So I conclude: Marvin Gaye III is the adopted, not biological, son of Marvin Gaye, Jr. smiley

My father who passed away in 2009 is the biological father of MG3 according to him and my aunts. We are from Detroit and my father was 17 yrs old at the time he had relations with Denise Gordy back in 1964-65. My father's family didn't live far from Denise Gordy and the Gordy mansion. If you saw a pic of my father and myself you would be blown away. I actually contacted MG3 via an online magazine who acted as a relay messenger about 8-9 yrs ago. According to MG3, I was told that he has proof that he is MG biological son. I believed my father and aunts that, in fact, my father is MG3 bological father. Of course a DNA test with myself could prove it but I suspect MG3 would rather believe the story handed to him.

Wow! Thanks for that. Because I look at him, and I just don't buy that he's really Marvin's son. In fact, I kept reading that around the neighborhood Marvin was living, they clowned him for taking a child that wasn't his. That he "wasn't a man" for adopting a child. I never believed that was Marvin's actual son via birth. Frankie C. Gaye, for example, obviously looks like him. Plus people try so hard to taint Marvin and the Gordys but I never believed that he was the biological dad. MG3 is in obvious denial, I'm afraid. I think even Zeola Gaye wrote that MG3 wasn't her brother's biological child. Glad you can come forward with your story and I believe your late father when he says that. Hopefully you can bring some pictures here. smiley

How do I upload pics to this site or do I need a url link to the pics? By the way, my father's name was Larry Sams. After speaking with my cousins they said that my Aunts knew Denise and that my father and she were actually dating at the time. So this wasn't a one-time sexually occurrence between two teens.

If you have a Photobucket, you could upload photos there and then insert (copy/paste) the image here. Thanks for further confirmation.
