question Marvin Gaye and cross dressing...
« Thread started on: Jul 15th, 2010, 8:58pm »

I was at another board a few minutes ago and people were discussing Tony Turner's Motown books, some say tabloids, and he was interviewed at one time and he mentioned how people were stunned that he mentioned about Marvin cross dressing. Now I had read an excerpt from Marvin's book that he was fascinated with cross dressing, much like his father, this is what David Ritz claimed. I'm thinking if he really did admit this, then Marvin was brave to put that in a book. Because there was a lot of mention in the book about Marvin, Sr. being a cross dresser. But I want to know if Marvin's family denies that either Marvin Sr. or Marvin Jr. were cross dressers and did any one in Marvin's circle ever see him like that? I'm guessing if they did, they didn't say it out of respect to Marvin and his family but this kinda struck me odd.

Don't wanna sound like I believe in a tabloid but I guess I want to clear it up so it wouldn't sound as if it was tabloid fodder because it truly sounds like it in one breath...

I remember reading about Tony Turner's statement of Marvin Cross Dressing in a Book called "Motown: music, money, sex and power". What I got from it was that he misinterpreted Marvin's early flamboyant style for being something a cross dresser would wear. He only mentioned Marvin' fancy fedoras. Marvin used to wear those hats all the time. Sadly I never trusted Tony Turner's judgement of people. Especially after that book he made of David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. I felt that he was a little bitter of their relationship and Eddie's attitude towards him, so he tried once or twice to drop that Gay Bomb. I wasn't buying it though. He tried to do the same with Marvin. However Marvin really did admit to the fear of liking women clothing but i doubt if he ever tried it. There was tons of thoughts that ran through his mind. Now you ask if Marvin Sr was a cross dresser. It's hard to say?

Yeah it seems what Marvin Sr. and Marvin Jr. shared was flamboyancy. I'm starting to doubt that Marvin ever "admitted" to cross dressing now that you mention it. I think he was open enough to admit that he did have a fascination but yeah he probably didn't fully engage in it. Tony Turner sounds bitter to me too.

Lol I just think Father Gay Liked how Women clothing felt. Or maybe he enjoyed silky fabrics. Lol...So many people confuse it with being gay. Father Gay name is always mixed up in the Gay rumors. Probably because he had Gay brothers. Many just assumed he was gay. I have been really thinking about this since you started this thread though. I must admit that I have before questioned Father Gay's sexuality. Thinking more about it. I came to believe that he wasn't gay. Maybe a cross dresser, or a fascination for women clothing. In Marvin's recent Documentary I think it was Bobby Taylor who mentioned how they used to Peek through his window and see Father Gay dressesd in women clothing. Maybe Marvin's Fascination developed from seeing his father dressed that way? Which is why he feared it so much.

Yeah David Ritz claimed that Marvin felt it was in his DNA that he didn't want there and he used sports and physicality to combat his father's flamboyance so to speak.
