« Thread started on: Jun 10th, 2012, 5:53pm »

What I mean is one or more songs that give you, to quote "My Girl", sunshine on a cloudy day? I've already mentioned some tunes in various posts, but I want to know if there is a song or songs from our hero that hit the spot & gave you a "warm fuzzy" at a time when you really needed it! I've got a few other "feel- good tunes: "Seek And You Shall Find". One day at work this past Jan., I was so stressed & emotionally spent due to a few personal problems--I was still thinking about my maternal grandmother, who passed away five years ago last Thu. (she was the final surviving grandparent). Also, I had run into several former high school classmates who recently married, & they were wondering why I hadn't gotten the band of gold yet. My standard response, "No man in his sane mind will marry a woman whose true passions in life are Marvin Gaye, classic TV, video games, comic book characters, & motorcycles", didn't faze them! And to make the day even worse...

(continued)...a horrible customer complained on me when I asked for his ID on a "same day" return (a purchase that gets returned later on the same day), which is the store's policy! Even though my manager told me not to worry, that the guy probably had shoplifted earlier & his behavior was typical in most shoplifters attempting to return what they stole (as no other customers show objection to the policy) it was not enough to keep me from going to the breakroom to cry my eyes out! Fortunately, this happened during the last 20 min. of my shift, so the manager let me leave early. When I started the car, I had left my "M.P.G." disc in the player--and would you believe "Seek" was the first song that started playing? Hearing our hero's voice instantly destroyed all the day's stress, & kept me happy as I drove home! Marvin's German-language songs, "Sympatica" & "Wie Schoen Das Ist", also give me the "warm fuzzies"! Just listening to our hero sing in a foreign language is enough to make a bad day good.

"When Love Comes Knocking At My Heart". This song from Marvin & Tammi should be required listening for all singles feeling bad over being alone on Valentine's Day! "When Love Comes Knocking" has been inspirational for me, in that when the first opportunity for love does "come knocking", I'm "surely gonna let it in"! I'll name more a little later, but I would like to hear from you guys on this. A final note--I'm sorry that I didn't mention our hero's songs from his later years, after "What's Going On". Motown in the 60's truly was a "feel-good" era. However, if there are any later-years Marvin songs that give you the "warm fuzzies", by all means, tell me about them!

The songs that give me the warm fuzzies are

"ain't that peculiar" (I love the way the song is arranged. I actually call it my "jogging" song LOL)

"gonna keep on trying til I win your love" (it makes me think of my times trying to win a woman's heart and Marvin's voice just has a sweet n' sour quality that meshes well together)

"Groovin'" (the song just makes me think about laying on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean and just chilling out)

As for a post WGO song that brightens up my day?

"Third World Girl" (the alternate mix, not the real slowed down one but the other one) (a little repetitive but I love the way Marvin does a bit of a jamaican accent when singing it and it's a great song to play while driving on the road)

Strangly, it's One of Marvin's songs that I never thought I'd like as much, or find as addictive... But lately it's been "my love is waiting".

That song has such a bouncy joyful wistfulness of Marvin singing about getting back together with Jan and proclaiming how much he missed "your mind and your body".

Thanks for your responses, Timmy, MPGFan, & Soulmusic! Here are a few more feel-good Marvin songs from my family & others I know: My mom--"Pride & Joy". She heard this song on the radio on the morning of her wedding with my dad--which was Sept. 30, 1969! My former high school principal--"What's Happening Brother". His own brother moved back home after living nearly 40 years in California, & he had this song played at his brother's birthday party. My manager at work loves "Ain't That Peculiar"! When I was leaving work, my mom called, & the song's first chorus played as a ringtone. My manager said, "Wow, did Marvin sing THAT?" I told her, "Yes, it's "Ain't That Peculiar"--my all-time favorite!" Would you believe she downloaded the song, & uses it for her exercise music? Another "Peculiar" fan is a former college classmate, who teaches kindergarten. She has a daily routine for her students, where they start class by dancing to a song, & I made a CD for her including "Peculiar", & other Motown songs

(continued)...that I thought would be kid-friendly (Yes, all of them were from the sixties). The students loved "Peculiar" so much, that my former classmate played it again last week as a "recessional" song on the last day of school, during the last few minutes before dismissal. The 16-year-old son of a co-worker, who attends a Catholic school (and is also part of the faith) has "God Is Love" as his feel-good song--he plays it every morning as he's getting ready for school & church. He prefers the alternate mix of the song from the "Pops, We Love You" album. And I have a few more feel-good favorites--"On The Street Where You Live", "My Kind Of Town", & "This Is The Life", from the "Hello Broadway" album. "To The Ends Of The Earth" & "It's Only A Paper Moon" from "Tribute To Nat King Cole". "Witchcraft" & "Love For Sale" from "Soulful Moods". I just love the line, "If you want to buy my wares/Follow me and climb the stairs". Again, thanks & keep the responses coming!

One of Marvin's early '60s leftovers, "It's Party Time", always gets me getting down. grin

Just thought of a few more that makes me feel good:

"baby i'm glad that things worked out so well" (I might've butchered the title there oh well)

"Mo Jo Hanna" (Marvin, for all his shyness could get funky with the crowd and even back in the early days he was getting down with all those WHOOOs tongue )

Which is why when he comments on how uneasy he felt, I wanted to say to him "yeah but you pulled it off!" smiley

I agree with you aries66, God is Love just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I like Head Title too, I think because the song is just off the top of his head and sounds like he's having fun.
