Trouble Man (2CD Expanded Edition With Bonus Tracks)

$27.99 ... CD 2 CDs
List Price: 29.98
(21.37 || 17.11 || 2206) (approx.)
CD (Item 632306) Motown/Hip-O Select, 1972 Condition: New Copy

An amazing new version of this classic with an insane amount of previously unreleased work! The core Trouble Man soundtrack is a heck of a wonderful surprise from an artist that most folks really only knew as a singer a fantastically funky blacksploitation score, conceived and composed by Marvin himself and served up with some occasional vocals that work beautifully with the album's cool instrumental grooves! The set's easily one of Gaye's most righteous records ever almost a second chapter to What's Going On, but more instrumental and like that classic set, it really shows the whole new range of vision that Marvin was able to work in the studio. Gaye gets a bit of arranging help on some tracks from Gene Page and JJ Johnson and the album's filled with great cuts including the landmark "T Plays It Cool", plus other gems like "Don't Mess With Mister T", "Main Theme From Trouble Man", "The Break In", and "T Stands For Trouble". But the core album is only 1/4 of the 2CD package as the set also features The T Sessions, which includes rare alternates and unusual recordings from the album sessions plus Trouble Man Original Film Score a whopping 20 more tracks from the original soundtrack of the movie, with lots of music that's different than Marvin's commercially released album! In all, the set's a real treasure more like a wealth of rare gems from the vault, with the core album thrown in for good measure. 1996-2012, Dusty Groove, Inc.

I did listen to the samples on the Amazon page and it sounds great!

I can't wait to get mine, either! Unfortunately, I have to wait until after Dec. 4--the owner of the local music store that I frequent says it's the street release date. Why can't Hip-O make their website & street releases the same?

Well, it looks like mine is on its way! I called another local music store, & they went ahead & placed an order for me--I should be getting it by next Fri.

So i've been listening to this and there is one minor tragedy....The unedited version of "T Stands For Trouble" should've been released in '72. That joint has a sound to it that was 10 years ahead of its time in a lot of ways with the infusion of what would become hip hop beats and smooth jazz stylings. I think when I first heard this alternate take of the song I nearly fell off my chair.

The double CD is almost worth it alone just for that alternate take on the song.

I agree... Marvin really worked hard on the soundtrack and score... I'm again blown away by Marvin's talent and I've been a fan for years but this blew me away. smiley
