"Grapevine" without strings--AWESOME!!

Hey, guys--sorry I've been away so long, but I just had to post this after downloading some songs from "The Motown Story, Vol. 1". In the introductory interview before Marvin's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", while our hero is talking, a instrumental clip of the song is played--WITHOUT STRINGS! Man, how I loved it! To be honest, I would have LOVED "Grapevine better if there wasn't a string section involved. The same thing was done for the Supremes' and Tempts' "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me"-- a stringless instrumental clip of the song was played during the interview with Mary Wilson and Dennis Edwards. It, too, was great!
So I was wondering, if Marvin recorded "Grapevine" without a string section, would you enjoy listening to it, and do you think the song would have still been a hit? I think so, and so do my folks, plus a few friends. I wish Motown would release alternate mixes of their popular songs without the string section--I would listen to them over and over! Sometimes the strings would "outshout" the rest of the music, particularly in the mono single mixes, to where I can't hear anything else!

I honestly don't think I could hear the track without the strings. They are what made that song sizzle in my honest opinion...
